The first three months of 2016 have been packed with excitement in the world of smartphones, with the most recent releases from Apple and Samsung making the most noise. But that’s nothing out of the ordinary. On a yearly basis, consumers worldwide look forward to new releases from the two tech giants, more specifically their newest smartphone models
UNDER THE HOOD CHANGES TO A GORGEOUS DESIGN

Samsung announced their much anticipated 2016 flagship phones, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, at Mobile World Congress in February. They were both released less than a month later to much critical acclaim. While the Galaxy S7 maintained the same sleek and beautiful glass-and-matte coated metal exterior, much like its 2015 predecessor, Samsung improved on its internal capabilities and re-added its signature waterproof attribute. The same can be said about its curved and larger sibling, the Galaxy S7 Edge.
Samsung did not intend to make dramatic changes to their flagships, but instead refine and perfect all aspects of the S6 and S6 Edge. However, one of the elements they most evidently focused on was the camera. In a world where social media rules our daily lives and where crisp 4K video can now be shot from a smartphone, Samsung focused on implementing a reliable and breathtaking camera on its smartphone that earned the phone an unofficial title of “Best Smartphone Camera” on the market.

Apple, on the other hand, made its return to the 4-inch market with the iPhone SE. Visually, the phone is identical to the company’s last 4-inch iPhone, the iPhone 5S, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The iPhone 5S was arguably one of the most successful and beautifully crafted phones that Apple had ever released. Now take that phone, decrease its release price, and fill it with high-end specifications similar to the iPhone 6 and you end up with the iPhone SE.
At the same event, the Apple announced a new iPad Pro, which shocked and confused many of their customers. The 2016 iPad Pro is packed with a 9.7 inch screen, which is a decrease compared to the 2015 iPad Pro’s 12.9 inch screen, however it is speculated that it was simply to find the ideal tablet screen size. However, the decrease in screen size was compensated with an increase in overall screen quality. The iPad Pro 9.7 inch is packed with a Retina display with True Tone and Night Shift, which will adjust colours on your screen based on the current lighting and make it easier on the eyes!
We’re only 3 months into 2016 and there are still so many exciting and revolutionary smartphones that will be released this year. Mobile innovation is moving at the same rate that technology is improving, so no one knows what company will create the next big thing!
