Hundreds of films are released every year, from American blockbusters to low-budget films. Some are at the top of the rankings in the first week, whilst others fall completely into oblivion. Today, we have prepared a selection of the top 10 movies in 2016, so far!
10. Bad Moms - Comedy
Starring: Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Kathryn Hahn.
This is your typical American comedy and a perfect movie for a girls evening. Bad Moms tells the story of three mothers who are tired of being the perfect mothers and decide to rebel and ignore their responsibilities for some time to themselves. From the makers of the Hangover, it's a little like Mean Girls, but with adults!
9. Me Before You - Drama, Romance
Starring: Emilia Clarke, Sam Claflin.
From the book of the same name, Me Before You tells the story of the encounter between Louisa, 26 with no particular ambition, and Will, who was suddenly paralysed. Louisa wants to do everything she can to restore Will back to how he was. A film of romance and drama, as so well done by Americans.
8. Colonia - Drama, History, Thriller
Starring: Emma Watson
A historical film set during coup in Chile in 1973. Daniel, Lena's boyfriend, is locked in a secret camp that is located within a sect controlled by a former Nazi. To do everything ti help him, Lena will voluntarily enter the camp, Colonia Dignidad, despite the risk of never escaping. This film is taken from a true story and is poignant and fascinating.
7. The Conjuring 2 - Horror
Starring: Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson.
The Conjuring 2 tells the story of another case, featuring Ed and Lorraine Warren, paranormal investigators in 1970. Regarded as one of their most traumatic investigations, the couple are helping a family composed of a mother and her four children, who live in a house haunted by spirits. The Conjuring 2 is one of the best horror movies of the year!
6. Tomorrow (Demain) - Documentary
Starring: Cyril Dion, Mélanie Laurent.
In another genre, Tomorrow is THE documentary to watch if you are concerned about the future of humanity. The directors, Mélanie Laurent and Cyril Dion, went out to meet those who propose solutions to the environmental, economic and social crises that we face today, to show what our world might look like tomorrow.
5. Deadpool - Action, Adventure, Comedy
Starring: Ryan Reynolds.
Deadpool, or Wade Wilson under the mask, is not your typical superhero story from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Wade Wilson went through an extraordinary experience that gave him exceptional healing powers, but that nearly cost him his life. He goes in search of the ones responsible for his tragedy, armed with his black humour and new superpowers. A funny and different film than what we typically see from Marvel!
4. Finding Dory - Animation
Starring: Andrew Stanton, Angus Maclane.
Finding Nemo was definitely one of the best animated films of the 00's. 13 years later, it's endearing Dory who is now on the big screen! Accompanied by her great friends, Marin and Nemo, Dory will return in the footsteps of his past to try to regain his memories.
3. Mad Max: Fury Road - Action, Science Fiction
Starring: Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Zoë Kravitz.
Mad Max: Fury Road is the fourth installment of the Mad Max series. This time, Mad Max, played by Tom Hardy, wants to forget her past in isolation. In the midst of an apocalyptic world that is no more than endless desert, where everyone fights for gasoline or water, he finds himself being chased down by the rebel Furiosa and his crew across the whole desert. A story full of twists and turns.
2. Room - Drama, Thriller
Starring: Brie Larson, Jacob Tremblay
Ma, as she is known to Jack, is stuck in a chamber where they are both locked. Jack has never known anything other than this room. She will try everything to give Jack a chance to escape and discover the outside world. A moving film to see.
1. The Revenant - Drama, Thriller
Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy.
And finally, in first place, one of the best movies of this year that finally earned Leonardo DiCaprio his first Oscar. Hugh Glass is left for dead by his teammates after being attacked and injured by a bear during an excursion. His desire for revenge drives him to begin a dangerous journey of more than 300km.
